The Preparatory Year at UPB is a one-year Romanian language program for foreign citizens who plan to study in Romanian but do not yet have a language certificate. Structured in two semesters (typically 60 ECTS under national regulations), it offers intensive training from A1–A2 to B1 level, plus Romanian culture and introductory specialised language linked to engineering, economics, IT or other disciplines. Classes are full-time and academically oriented, preparing students to read, write and communicate effectively in a Romanian university environment. After passing all exams, graduates receive a recognised certificate that allows them to apply for Romanian-taught Bachelor, Master or doctoral programs at UPB or any accredited Romanian university.

The Preparatory year at UPB (Politehnica University of Bucharest) is a one-year, full-time academic program designed for international students who want to continue their studies in Romanian.

It is mandatory for candidates who wish to study in Romanian at UPB (or other Romanian universities) and do not yet hold an accepted Romanian language certificate. Over two semesters, students develop the essential skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking for academic purposes, while also gaining basic terminology linked to future fields such as technical, economic, medical or philological studies.

Programme Structure

The Preparatory Year at UPB follows the typical structure of Romanian language preparatory programs: one academic year, divided into two semesters that progressively move students from beginner to independent user (around B1) in Romanian.

Semester 1 – Foundations (A1–A2 + Culture)
