Programme Structure

The Preparatory Year is structured as a one-year intensive pathway that moves students from beginner or elementary Romanian to the B1 level required for admission to Romanian-taught programmes. It follows national regulations for preparatory programmes and is fully credit-bearing (60 ECTS).

  • Semester 1 (Foundations): Focus on basic grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and everyday communication (A1–A2). Students develop core reading, listening and speaking skills and learn the language needed for daily life, administrative procedures and basic academic tasks.
  • Semester 2 (Academic & Specialized Romanian): Transition to more complex structures and extended texts, building towards B1 level. Teaching introduces academic skills (note-taking, summarising, presentations) and specialized terminology linked to future fields (e.g. sciences, engineering, economics, humanities, medical basics), following the national model for preparatory-year curricula.
  • Final milestone: A Romanian language proficiency exam organized by the university assesses B1 competence in line with the Common European Framework; passing it leads to a preparatory-year completion certificate, which allows enrolment in degree programmes taught in Romanian.

Because it is a single-year programme, there is no Year 3–4 or 5–6 progression; instead, further specialization takes place in the subsequent Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programmes that students enter after successful completion.
