Preparatory Year at the University of Craiova is a one-academic-year, full-time programme (about 10 months, 2 semesters) hosted by the Faculty of Letters. It is designed for foreign citizens who want to study a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme in Romanian, but do not yet have a Romanian B1 language certificate or equivalent level.
Over the year, students build the essential language skills needed for academic study and daily life in Romania, culminating in a final exam that certifies B1 proficiency and grants 60 ECTS credits, in line with national and Bologna-based regulations.
Academically and professionally, Preparatory Year at the University of Craiova is the main gateway to Romanian-taught degrees at Craiova and other universities across the country. Successful graduates can progress into programmes in engineering, IT, economics, social sciences, humanities, arts, medicine and more, at a public university ranked among Romania’s top institutions and present in major global rankings such as QS, THE and EduRank.

Because The Preparatory Year at the University of Craiova uses the ECTS credit system common to all accredited Romanian universities, students benefit from transparent recognition of their studies and easier academic mobility within the European Higher Education Area.

Build your Romanian language skills, adapt to academic life, and unlock access to Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programmes across Romania. Take the next step with confidence, choose Craiova, and let Stinwo Romania guide you toward your study destination. Apply now and turn your plans into a real academic journey in Romania.
The Preparatory Year is structured as a one-year intensive pathway that moves students from beginner or elementary Romanian to the B1 level required for admission to Romanian-taught programmes. It follows national regulations for preparatory programmes and is fully credit-bearing (60 ECTS).
Because it is a single-year programme, there is no Year 3–4 or 5–6 progression; instead, further specialization takes place in the subsequent Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programmes that students enter after successful completion.
