The Preparatory Year – Romanian Language at UAB is a one-year, 60-ECTS programme dedicated to foreign citizens who intend to continue their studies in Romania. Through intensive language courses (A1–B1/B2), Romanian culture and civilisation, and field-specific language electives, students build the academic communication skills needed for university-level study. Teaching is interactive, with lectures, seminars, workshops and one-to-one tutorials, complemented by cultural events and study visits that ease social and academic integration. Programme Structure

The Preparatory year at UAB is organised over two semesters, progressively developing students’ Romanian language competence from beginner to at least intermediate level, while introducing Romanian culture and field-specific terminology. All components are credit-bearing and follow Bologna/ECTS standards, enabling transparent recognition.

Semester 1 (Foundations – 30 ECTS)

  • Practical Romanian Language (CEFR A1–A2): 23 hours/week – 25 ECTS
  • Romanian Culture and Civilisation – Module 1: 2 hours/week – 5 ECTS

Semester 2 (Consolidation & Specialisation – 30 ECTS)

  • Practical Romanian Language (CEFR B1–B2): 18 hours/week – 20 ECTS
  • Romanian Culture and Civilisation – Module 2: 2 hours/week – 5 ECTS
  • Romanian Language for Specific Purposes (medical, business, technical, humanities, law/social sciences – one track chosen): 5 hours/week – 5 ECTS

Academic milestones: continuous assessment, progress tests, oral exams, presentations and a final language examination leading to the Romanian language proficiency certificate.
