The university traces its origins to November 30, 1859, when the Surgery School of Iași was inaugurated, becoming the first Romanian-language higher medical education institution in Romania. Officially established in 1879 as the Faculty of Medicine, it operated independently until 1948, when it merged with the School of Pharmacy and School of Dentistry to form the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy.
In 1991, the institution was renamed after world-famous neuro-endocrinologist Grigore T. Popa and classified by the Ministry of Education as an advanced research and education university. The university has continuously evolved, adding the Faculty of Medical Bioengineering as Romania’s first and only program of its kind. Throughout its 146-year history, UMF Iași has maintained its position as a leader in medical education, adapting to international standards while preserving its rich academic traditions.

Besides accommodation facilities, two protocol rooms (20 seats each) and a dining hall (26 seats) has been built within the campus which could be used as “Student Buffet”. You can afford your daily meals with a reasonable price at the Student Buffet. Plans have been considered for expansion, aiming to increase the capacity of dining hall to 200 seats with meal costs close to 27 lei.

When they wanted to tell me about the visa issuance, they stressed me that when did you go to the embassy, and I was afraid that my visa would be rejected and I wanted to cry, but when they said that my visa was issued, I seriously started crying and they didn’t know if it was tears of joy or sadness. I think if it wasn’t for Stinov, I would have missed the deadline this year like last year.
